Day 142

Date:- 3 August 2010
Distance:- 70.70 Km
Distance to Date:- 8129.2 Km
Start:- Pardoo Roadhouse Caravan Park
Finish:- DeGrey River Rest Area
Comment:- Had tea in the café then spoke to different people at the bar. One gentleman was driving a government vehicle from Broome back to Perth as the original driver had to fly back. Another couple from Rockingham were heading north to Broome. After a while I gathered my things and back to the tent and into bed by 9.30pm

Up about 6am and on the road by 7.10am. A 5 to 10 knot north westerly wind, cloudless sky and I am riding in a south westerly direction generally.

Passed a turn off to Pardoo Station Caravan Park about 32 Km out. Took my break 36km out of Pardoo about 9.45am There were a few hills appearing on the scene and at this stage the road is winding around them.

There is always something to ruin a good day and today its flies. Excessively sticky and Aerogard has very little effect.

There is now a railway line and power transmission lines visible which makes you feel like you are back in civilization. Arrived at my destination about 12.39pm. Found a quiet spot to erect my tent and settle in for the day.

It was here I met Douglas Knowles from Carnarvon who is on his third circuit of Australia. He had endured some strong head winds since leaving Carnarvon and is hoping for better conditions ahead.

Also met Michael and Alana from Adelaide where I enjoyed a couple of ales then a very nice tea, I look forward to meeting them again in Adelaide where they offered me a bed for the night.

After a very pleasant evening I excused myself and headed for my tent and into bed about 8.30pm,

Tomorrow I will get to South Hedland a distance of about 84km.
