Day 152

Date:- 13 August 2010
Distance:- 48.74 Km
Distance to Date:- 8928.6 Km
Start:- Lyndon Creek Rest Area
Finish:- Minilya Caravan Park
Comment:- I was up at 6 am this morning and had breakfast, washed up and packed up slowly drying things as I went. There was a shower of rain while I was packing but I was under a shelter so it didn’t effect me this time. One gentleman came over and offered to fill my water bottles. A cup of tea and a couple of biscuits and a container of freshly made fruit salad I received from them as well. Thank you.

Said my farewells to everyone and on the road by 8am. I saw three emus run across the road in front of me early in the day, and further down six kangaroos hopped across the road and judging by the road kill they must be bin plague numbers.

Had a quick break about 25 km out at 10 am. There is hardly a cloud in the sky now but I am enduring a south easterly wind of 5 - 10 kts and as the day progressed it got stronger. I really struggled the last 10 km into Minilya as it was straight in my face.

About 40 km out there was another turn off for Coral Bay and Exmouth. Arrived at Minilya Caravan Park, booked in and the first thing I did was put a load of washing in. Hung my sleeping bag out to air then put my tent up, cleaning red mud off as I went. Then I enjoyed a nice hot shower, before relaxing for the afternoon.

Met some female cyclists who were cycling for Midwives, women, Normal Birth & Breast Feeding. They had started their trip from Darwin and riding around Australia. They have given themselves 12 months to complete the trip.

Tomorrow I will go to the Yalabia Rest Area and if the wind is in my favour continue on to Carnarvon.
