Day 130
Date:- 22 July 2010
Distance:- 109.59 Km
Distance to Date:- 7200.70 Km
Start:- Halls Creek Caravan Park
Finish:- Mary Pool
Comment:- I was in bed by 9.30pm last night after charging all my batteries. Very good nights sleep. Up about 6.45am and on the road by 8am. An east to south easterly wind of about 10 to 15 knots was blowing and a bit of light cloud around.
The road was excellent all the way to Mary pool with a metre wide breakdown lane for 85% of the way. Last 10 km the surface was quite rough.
Passed the turnoff for Alice Springs about 17.5 km out of Halls Creek, more commonly known as the Tanami Track.
There was a little bit of traffic around and everyone was in waving mode. A police car came up along side me waved and tooted his horn then took off.
Stopped for my break at 60km out at about 11.30am then back on the road to Mary Pool. My map said 119 Km to Mary Pool and the Rest Area Guide said 117 Km and you can imagine my delight when around the next corner “Rest Area 500m” and my computer read 107km.
An uneventful trip and I arrived at Mary Pool about 2.30pm. Chose a site, set up camp then wandered around the area. Met some people from Ocean Grove up here on holiday.
Cooked tea about 5.30pm (it gets dark early and quickly), washed up then wandered again before retiring to bed about 7.30pm
Will head for Ngumban Cliff Rest Area tomorrow a distance of 80 km
