Day 29

Date:- 12 April 2010
Distance:- 101.01 Km
Distance to Date:- 1278.1 Km
Start:- Mittagong
Finish:- Penrith (Emu Plains Caravan Park)
Comment:- 2321 Cars, 130 Trucks and 27 Trains I counted last night. Only joking but the caravan park was very close to the road and railway line and it was very noisy. I got a couple of hours sleep I think.

Up and on the road by 9am. Very windy, as forecast, a SE/SW wind. About 5 km out of Mittagong I rejoined the Freeway. A couple of gentle hills then I had the best downhill run of about 30km without even peddling.

Bill, I named the turtle I rescued yesterday “Kevin”. He needed a helping hand.

All bikes had to leave the Freeway (Hume Highway) near Campbelltown and I decided to go for Penrith. A couple of places along the Northern Highway were a bit uncomfortable, but we survived. Penrith is not a bike friendly town - no bike lanes, narrow footpaths, not nice.

Had trouble finding a caravan park. Asked at a Hungry Jack outlet - no idea. The BP service station - no idea. The information place was about 3km out of town and there was no way I was going to ride 3 km out to them and possibly more to find a park. There were no people in the streets to ask but finally a young girl asked me for the local taxi phone number, I didn’t know naturally but I asked her if she knew of a park and she suggested I go to Emu Plains.

I arrived at the caravan park, booked in, set up the tent, had a nice hot “timed” shower. Had tea and now doing the reports.

Again I don’t know were I will go tomorrow. Need to study a map or two and get some local advice.

  1. Hello Geoffrey,
So pleased to hear from you. As a gesture of support I am sending Minister Wong to meet you in Sydney. She will assist you so you don't go the Wong Way.
    (Your blogs are very interesting)
    Cheers,
