Day 37
Date:- 20 April 2010
Distance:- 70.91 Km
Distance to Date:- 1807.50 Km
Start:- Stoney Park Caravan Park
Finish:- Paddys Rest Area (!0km south of Macksville)
Comment:- My departure was delayed by a shower of rain (not volcanic dust). Was able to get everything under cover, quite cosy actually.
On the road by 8.45am and the sign post said 30 km to Kempsey. Road was a bit ordinary to start with. The breakdown lane was sacrificed when an overtaking lane was installed.
Stopped at Bloodwood Rest area for my snack break about 20 km out. Well set out rest area yet I was the only one there for the 30 minutes I was there. There was 10 km to Kempsey. Back to 4 lanes about 6 km from Kempsey so it was a bit more comfortable.
Arrived in Kempsey and found the Info Office. I seemed to have more info than they could offer me for my ride north, but they did say stop at Freddy’s Pie Shop on the way.
Through Kempsey, over the McLeay River and onto Fredrickton where I had lunch. There were about 50 different pies to choose from - crocodile, emu, rabbit, camel, kangaroo, and many different combinations. I had a boring steak and onion pie with a pot of tea followed by a thick shake.
Back on the road again and it was quite a pleasant ride. I was going to Macksville but when Paddy’s Rest Area came up it looked very inviting, so in I went. Just got the tent up and all my gear stowed when we coped a heavy shower of rain. I think someone is looking after me.
Early night tonight as there are no lights and hopefully a good nights sleep
Hope to make Coffs Harbour or nearby tomorrow and have a rest day there.
