Day 38

Date:- 21 April 2010
Distance:- 73.31 Km
Distance to Date:- 1880.9 Km
Start:- Paddy’s Rest Area
Finish:- Coffs Harbour
Comment:- Up at 6am today after a reasonable nights rest. There were about 10 cars camping here overnight. Also the contractors were here cleaning the toilets and emptying the rubbish bins and generally cleaning up. Good to see. A couple of campers came over to inquire about what I was up to and were in for a chat.

I was on the road by 8.05am this morning. A reasonable road to start and I arrived in Macksville about 9.30am. It is a reasonably sized town. Crossed over the Nambucca River and headed off down to Nambucca. The road followed the river so was quite a pleasant ride. I decided not to go into the town and kept going on to Coffs Harbour.

The road between Nambucca Heads and Urunga leaves a little to be desired, up and down, very little shoulder and a bit of traffic. As I was catching my breath on one of the hills a cyclist caught up to me. Stephen, I think, I am not good on remembering names. He was towing a two wheeled trailer and had been down south with a group ride. We chatted for a while, then parted ways. He lived in Urunga so he was nearly home.

The road from Urunga to Coffs Harbour was something else. Four lanes, a 2 metre shoulder and as flat as a tack. Makes the day worth while. I stopped at the Info Office in Coffs Harbour to find out where all the caravan parks were situated. I chose to head for a park out on the Pacific Highway and as I was travelling along I spotted a new park on the right hand side of the road, so over I went. After a brief conversation I booked in for two nights

I set the tent up, headed down the street to get some tea, back to the tent, a good shower, and then did a big load of washing. Now I am relaxing with some potato chips and a mug or two of lemonade while writing up my diary.

A nice rest day tomorrow.

  1. Geoff you seem to be travelling longer distances each after you left Canberra. Must be the better roads???? Your discovery of new caravan parks is interesting and good for future reference. Enjoy the rest day and sightseeing around Coffs Harbour.
