Day 56

Date:- 9 May 10
Distance:- 35.57 Km
Distance to Date:- 2944.6 Km
Start:- Rockhampton Caravan Park
Finish:- Yaamba Rest Area
Comment:- Up about 6am this morning and taking things quietly. I have planned to stop at Yaamba Rest Area which is only 35km north of here. Why? Because I felt the 104 Km to Marlborough was just a little much for one day, plus the fact I am about 8 days ahead of schedule.

Rang Mum about 8am to wish her happy Mothers Day, then out and on the road by 8.30am. Found my way back to the Bruce Highway and headed north. Rockhampton was bigger than I thought. From when I left the caravan park in North Rockhampton to the last set of traffic lights was about 12 km.

Very good road for the short distance I was on it. I hope it stays that way for tomorrow. A few steeper undulations today did slow me down a bit but that nice tail wind certainly helped.

Arrived at Yaamba about 11.30am and thought, should I keep going or not. As time was not an issue I decided to stay. Bit of a trap, there is a hotel on one side of the road and a café/ service station on the other.

Tomorrow Marlborough or a bit further.

  1. Hi Geoff. The photograph looks pretty good but Jill said you should be smiling, you need to look like your enjoying yourself. After all you are 8 days ahead of schedule. Hope your injuries are on the mend and will not hold you back getting to Cairns. The photograph of the campsite looks good nothing quite like a GVBR camp. A lot less bike rider!!
Jill says you need a haircut but the suntan is looking OK. Your never too far away from the instructions!! Keep those pedals turning and enjoy the sunshine. Stuart and Jill
