Day 65

Date:- 18 May 2010
Distance:- 63.18 Km
Distance to Date:- 3458.4 Km
Start:- Proserpine Caravan Park
Finish:- Bowen Palms Caravan Park
Comment:- It seemed to drizzle all night and even at 6am when I got up it was still drizzling. Took my time having breakfast and then packing up in the rather salubrious camp kitchen.

A person I met back in Bega, Coral (I am bad with names) came to have a chat When I met her in Bega she was heading south to Wilsons Promontory then up through the centre of NSW and then heading to Cairns by early June to do the All Trails mountain bike ride to Cape York.

When I hit the road about 8.30am there was a light misty rain which soon cleared away. Wet roads, slush from passing cars and trucks - something different I suppose.

About 20km out of Proserpine the road started to dry out and the sun is trying to poke through. Makes for a more pleasant ride. Road is flat with a one metre shoulder and I am scooting along at about 20 kilometre per hour. It felt good.

Stopped for my snack break about 10.30am on the side of the road near an old abandoned rest area was situated. Back on the bike and charging into Bowen. Check out the rest area just south of Bowen only to find it was no overnight stays.

Found the caravan park I had decided on, booked in, and set up etc. Bought a couple of sausage rolls for lunch then set about doing my diary.

Hi light or should I say low light was that I lost the top section of my flag off my trailer somewhere between Bowen and my snack break. Decided it wasn’t worth backtracking to try and find it and will endeavour to find a piece of dowel from a hardware store and improvise.

My next few days should go something like this:-
Wednesday Bowen to Gumlo
Thursday Gumlo to Homehill
Friday Homehill to Townsville
