Day 70

Date:- 23 May 10
Distance:- 0 Km
Distance to Date:- 3795.3 Km
Start:- Palm Tree Caravan Park - Ingham
Finish:- Palm Tree Caravan Park - Ingham

Comment:- Went to bed last night about 9.30pm and just dozed off to sleep when an almighty noise awoke me. It was a goods train which was only about 100 metres away. By the time I scraped myself off the ceiling of the tent it was gone. Another train went through early morning but I heard that one coming.

Not much to report today. Out of bed by 7.30am, had breakfast with real milk on my vita brits and some real toast and a nice cup of tea.

A phone call to a dear friend of ours whose birthday it is today. Happy 63 years……………..

Then I went over both the trailer and the bike, cleaning and checking nuts and bolts for tightness. Back wheel of bike has a bit of a wobble in it and the two small idler cogs are well worn. Will need to replace cogs and have wheel trued up. Everything else seems ok.

Wrote about 3 or 4 E- mails and then spoke to Les and Mary from Brisbane who are taking 6 weeks and heading up into the gulf country in their Combi-van.

Had lunch then retrieved my washing from the clothes line, folded it and packed it away. A tidy up of the tent and tried to fix the lower metal rib of my tent. Need some tools, so I will leave that job till I reach Cairns.

Tomorrow I will be going onto Cardwell. I believe I may have a few hills to contend with so I probably make Cardwell my destination.

  2. Hi Geoff,

Glad you have finally told us all how this system works. Been following your reports religiously every day. You appear to be enjoying the ride to date. When you get to Cairns do you have to come back down before heading west? It may be another bus trip to get to the top of the divide once you start your westward journey.
It can get quite hot in the middle of the day (or it was 12 months ago when I was visiting my brother) up that way how are you coping with the heat?
    All the best
    Alan
