Day 84

Date:- 6 Jun 10
Distance:- 0 Km
Distance to Date:- 4033.5 Km
Start:- Grahame & Mundi - Cairns
Finish:- Grahame & Mundi - Cairns
Comment:- Left home about 9am to check out the fruit & vegie market before booking our trip to Green Island. A look around the tourist shops before boarding at 10.45. for the journey to Green Island aboard the Reef Rocket

The trip across was OK. When we cleared the headland we endured a lumpy ride from a southern swell. Arrived at the Green Island Jetty, alighted and found the info office.

After a light lunch of a pie and chips and a drink we took the self guided walk around the island. Back at the shops Evon and I enjoyed an ice-cream sundae.

Our next activity was the glass bottom boat tour. We saw lots of coral and fish including the fish feeding and commentary. This was followed by the semi -submarine which lets you explore the underwater world in air -conditioned comfort. We saw 3 large turtles, 1 large clam, numerous fish and lots of different coral - a great experience.
We returned to the island and had coffee while waiting for our return journey to Cairns. Our return journey was a little more comfortable, arriving back in Cairns about 5pm.

Picked up by Grahame, Mundi & Sam and went to watch Evon and them play tennis for an hour before returning home for the night.

  1. Geoff Sounds like a lot of relaxation going on. Hope you haven't forgotten how to ride the bike!!
Good to hear you're enjoying the warm weather because it freezing in Geelong but not much rain. Not much fun riding last Saturday in the cold and miserable weather. I guess you've already got the next stage of the ride planned? I have passed your blog onto my cousin from Narrabri who is riding with a group from Townsville to Broome starting on 1 July and expecting to finish early to mid August. They are going via Darwin. SO I'm not sure if they will meet you along the way or not. They are participating in the annual Bike for Bibles ride in aid of the Bible Society in Australia. Keep up the good relaxation program over the next few days before commencing the next stage.
    Regards Stuart and Jill
