Day 95
Date:- 17 June 2010
Distance:- 114.31 Km
Distance to Date:- 4531.0 Km
Start:- Hughenden Caravan Park
Finish:- Lakeview Caravan Park - Richmond
Comment:- Up about 6am and up to the Camp Kitchen to fix breakfast. Rang Evon to see how she survived the forecast strong winds overnight. She was alright but the dog deserted her and went downstairs.
I was packed and on the road by 8am. A cloudless sky and a light NE wind. Road was slightly undulating and no shoulders for the first 5 km.
I saw this thing in the distance and thought it was a bit of shredded tyre until I got closer and it moved. About 4 foot long tiger snake I think. This was about 32 km out from Hughenden.
I had a very good run to Marathon Rest Area where I found new toilets with lights, and two new rotundas. I had my snack break here about 11.30 before continuing on to Richmond. It was starting to cloud over and when the sun went behind a cloud it was quite pleasant.
A couple of caravaners I met in Hughenden passed me on the way to Richmond for the day and I was about 30km from Richmond when I saw they had stopped on the side of the road to offer me a cuppa. It was a very nice gesture.
There were lots of dead grasshoppers on the road just out of Richmond and the birds were having a feast. Apparently there is a plague of grasshoppers at the moment.
Arrived in Richmond and found the caravan park, booked in, setup, had a shower, then proceeded to do my diary. Off to the local club for tea tonight.
Tomorrow I would like to get to Julia Creek (140Km) I may have to settle on a rest area between. We will see what the conditions are like once I get on the road.

Hi Geoff nice to see you are back on the road - I have been following your progress via Google Earth and it's good to be able to get right into your trip with the "little yellow man" - it looks a bit brown and barren where you are - why all the dinasours? Anyway keep going mate I am enjoying my vicarious bike ride around Australia. Here's wishing you a good tail wind! Tom
ReplyDeleteHi Geaff good to see you going strong, I tried to insert the photo we took of you at belyana rest area but found myself technically challenged. All the best Les and Mary
