Day 89
Date:- 11 Jun 10
Distance:- 55.44 Km
Distance to Date:- 4092.1 Km
Start:- Magnetic Gateway Holiday Village - Townsville
Destination:- Reid Creek Rest Area
Comment:- Another rough night, last night, getting used to the tent, traffic noise and being by myself again.
I arose about 6.15am this morning. Still dark. Over to the camp kitchen to boil the kettle and have breakfast. Back to the tent to pack up. A bit more difficult this time with a few extra items of food, water and containers but we managed.
A short chat with a gentleman , originally from South Africa but now living in Cairns and working in Townsville temporarily. He is a keen cyclist himself on mountain bikes.
On the road by 8.30am, the Bruce Highway for a short period before turning left onto the Flinders Highway on the way to Charters Towers.
Road was slightly undulating for the first 25 km and then flattened out on the way to Reid Creek Rest area. A good width shoulder for the majority of the trip and traffic was light. There were two sets of roadworks on the way but weren’t a problem.
Stopped for my snack break about 10.30am and rang Evon to wish her a safe trip home. Passed through the small town of Woodstock at 37 km then stopped at Calcium for lunch at 12.15 pm.
After lunch I continued on to Reid Creek Rest Area where I will spend the night. Tomorrow my destination will be Charters Towers, about 75 km down the road.
I found it quite hard today, possibly for a number of reasons. Not being on the bike for two weeks, a heavier load, lack of sleep over the last couple of nights and whether I am doing the right thing or not by continuing. Hopefully I can settle down over the next few days
