Comment:- In bed by 10.30 pm last night. Light rain was falling. Awoke a few times through the night to the sound of strong wind and showers. About 6 am it was still blowing strong so I checked the forecast and it 20 - 25 kts gusting to 45 kts at times with showers becoming more isolated in the afternoon. I have decided to stay here for the day. Lois sent me an SMS to find out where I was and it turned out she was here as well in “couch surfer” accommodation.
I had breakfast, then did a load of washing and hung it out to dry. Lois came around and we headed off into town. I found a bike mechanic and had my bike checked over. I was having trouble with my right hand selector as well as a noise in my chain drive. Lois and I went for a coffee first up, then a Post Office, an ATM and finally a super market to stock before we attack the Nullarbor. We had a light lunch at the local Bakery.
Went back and picked up my bike. Lois went back to her accommodation and I went back to the caravan park. Collected and packed up my washing and repacked my other gear. I then went for a stroll along the water front before returning to the park to do my diary and Blog.
The weather forecast is more promising so will set off for Salmon Gums tomorrow.

Hey Geoff - you've been putting in some epic days, burning your way toward the Nullabor! 187km with trailer + panniers is a huge effort -even with a tail wind! Good decision not to ride yesterday - the wind was hideous, even in a motorhome.
ReplyDeleteI visited Coolgardie/Kalgoorlie/Boulder yesterday - mining enclaves; beautiful old buildings - could almost step back in time!
My new grandson arrived on the 8th, hale and healthy at 3.8kg. I think I'll be accelerating towards Canberra now, to check him out.
Tailwinds to you, and you are on the home run now. What a saga your journey has been! Cheers to Lois too, if you meet up with her again.
Stay upright! Cheers, Coral.
