Day 188

Date:- 18 September 2010
Distance:- 117.36 Km
Distance to Date:- 11542 Km
Start:- Cocklebiddy Caravan Park
Finish:- Moodini Bluff Rest Area
Comment:- Last night I had tea in the café and watched the news and current affairs programs before the telecast of the preliminary footy final between Geelong and Collingwood was to be shown. While having tea a couple of women came into the café for tea. One of the women was an Allen from Meredith who where old family friends from when we lived at Ballan.

I decided it was time to retire to bed about 8.15 pm so said good bye to everyone and back to my tent for the night. Listened to the last quarter of the football final and was disappointed that Geelong was beaten.

After a good nights sleep I was up at 6 am, packed had breakfast in the café like the day before and on the road by 7.30 am.

An overcast day with the odd shower of rain and a light southerly breeze which increased as the day progressed. Good road with the break down lane for a bit of added security. Light traffic flow.

About 10 km out of Cocklebiddy was the turnoff for the Eyre Bird Observatory which is housed in the Eyre Telegraph Station ruins.

And then about 15 km out I met two cyclists from Perth. They were riding the Nullarbor from Ceduna to Norseman.

Stopped at the Moonera Tank Rest Area for my break about 45 km out at 10.45 am. I then had an incident free straight run into Madura where I met up with Sarah again. After having a look around I decided I would head out to the next rest area which was 27 km down the road.

Took off about 4 pm and arrived at the Moodini Rest Area about 6 pm and Sarah’s bus was there as well. Set up camp next to her bus and enjoyed the company of her backup crew. Had tea and a nice glass or two of white wine and sat around a camp fire before I had to excuse myself to do my diary and go to bed.

Tomorrow I hope to get to Mundrabilla Roadhouse a distance of about 87 Km.
