Day 184

Date:- 14 September 2010
Distance:- 114.62 Km
Distance to Date:- 11292 Km
Start:- Balladonia Roadhouse Caravan Park
Finish:- Baxter Rest Area
Comment:- Up at 6 am this morning and had breakfast with Wally from Barwon Heads. Thank you Wally.

I then packed up all my gear and filled my water bottles and on the road by 8 am.

Beautiful morning with the sun shining and a light south westerly breeze blowing. Afgan Rocks Rest Area was just 5 km out of town, with tables and chairs and a big parking area but no toilets.

About 17 km out was a sign indicating an emergency landing strip for the R.F.D.S. The road had been widened and cleared along the shoulders and the appropriate markings were on the road.

I then rode past the ruins of an old Telegraph station about 25 km out.

At 35 km out was a sign telling me the next section of road was Australia’s Longest Straight Road. Its 100 miles or 145 km long.

Stopped at Woorlba Homestead Rest area for my break. One gentleman came over to enquire about what I was doing so I asked him for a coffee while we talked. He no sooner left when another gentleman came over. I asked him for a cuppa and he too obliged. I was back on the road about 45 minutes latter heading for Baxter Rest Area.

Lost my good breakdown lane on the road just out of the rest area but traffic was very light.

People have been telling me how green the Nullarbor is and I have to agree, even a sprinkling of wild flowers if you look.

About 20 km out from my destination the wind swung around to the south and made the riding a little more difficult but we poked along and eventually arrived at then rest area about 4.15pm. Found a spot to put my tent up in and settled in for the night.

Tomorrow I will head for Caiguna a distance of 67 km.
