Day 183

Date:- 13 September 2010
Distance:- 89.29 Km
Distance to Date:- 11177 Km
Start:- Fraser Ranges Caravan Park
Finish:- Balladonia Roadhouse Caravan Park
Comment:- Up at 6 am and on the road by 7.30 am. Foggy morning with a light south westerly breeze starting to come in. Sun started to come out and starting to warm things up. The good road continued to Balladonia. It gives you a feeling of a little more security.

Clouding over mid morning and the south westerly wind has built up to 5 - 10 kts (blowing right to left across the road for most of the day.

First two “Parking” areas are big and well off the road. Rubbish Bins only. The Newman Rocks Rest Area was close to the road but had table and chairs and Rubbish Bins but no Toilets.

Stopped on the side of the road for my break 45 kms out at 10.30 am.

About 50 kms out a couple of young men hailed me to stop and gave me some water and a nice cup of tea. Very nice, thanks fellas.

Rode past Harms Lake Rest Area and was very similar to the other but much larger area. Continued on and soon arrived at the Balladonia Roadhouse. Booked in, tent up, shower and then had a wander around the property.

There is a very interesting museum in the roadhouse covering the early history of the area as well as a piece of “Skylab” which fell back to earth in 1979.

A round of golf on the Nullarbor Links will see you teeing off on outback style natural terrain fairways. Each participating town or roadhouse along the Eyre Highway will contribute to the 18 - hole par - 72 golf course.
No.1 tee is in Kalgoorlie and the 18th hole some 1365 km away in Ceduna.

Will probably get to the Baxter Rest Area Tomorrow a distance of 115 km.
