Day 190

Date:- 20 September 2010
Distance:- 66.25 Km
Distance to Date:- 11698 Km
Start:- Mundrabilla Caravan Park
Finish:- Eucla Caravan Park
Comment:- I was up at 5.45 am this morning, packed and over to the café for breakfast. On the road by 7.15 am.

Heavy overcast day with a light to moderate south easterly wind. On my right face again. The road is good with the break down lane.

Today was just as cold as yesterday and miserable with a few light showers mixed in. Mid morning the cloud started to break up and periods of sun shine were experienced.

Lots of small clumps of wild flowers along the road. White, Pink, Red and yellow flowers, quite stunning when you look closely at them.

Stopped for my break 35 km out, on the side of the road about 10.15 am. Continued on my way to Eucla without incident and the last km into Eucla required special treatment. Found the caravan park, booked in, set up tent, etc.

My mobile phone has sprung to life finally. There has been no mobile phone coverage between Norseman and Eucla. I am not set up for Internet Cafes and most of them were not working. Public Phones were my main form of communication with family.

  1. Hi Geoff - nice to see you on the air again! I really felt for you as I drove across the Nullabor - it was a hell of a long way to drive, and I thought about how it must feel to be riding ... particularly as the weather deteriorated! There were gale force winds during my "crossing", and I kept hoping that they would subside somewhat before you passed that way. Sounds like you got pretty wet in any case. Am I right in thinking this might have been the hardest part of your ride? I think it would challenge for even the most motivated person! Anyway, as usual you have forged on regardless, - well done, son! Cheers from Coral (now in Ballarat).

  2. Geoff - We havent heard from you for some time. Being of the air means a bit of reading of your past several days. You just have to get used to the cold weather because its still here in Victoria. The Rain has eased for the moment however more is still forecast. Pity about the wind I guess you were hoping for tail winds generally as you cross the Nullabor. Keep up the good work and turning those pedals.
    Cheers Stuart and Jill

  4. Hi Geoff,

It's Rod, Lois' husband. I just finished talking to Lois and telling her what you had been up to from your blog. She said to say hi. She is now at Ceduna. She had a few long rides but then with the SE winds, rain and cold had to do a few short ones and have a rest day. She is still woosing out on camping - says it's too cold. According to the weather channel the winds will change from the south to the west around the time she starts heading north up to Whyalla. She also said to tell you she hasn't found any of these mobile phones you reckon you keep finding along the way, but she has found a diamond ring. She hasn't had mobile coverage until today at Ceduna. Hopefully it will stay for the rest of the trip. She is having trouble keeping weight on even though trying to eat as much as she can. Hope the rest of your trip is good.
    God bless,
    Rod
