Day 191
Date e:- 21 September 2010
Distance:- 57.36 Km
Distance to Date:- 11756 Km
Start:- Eucla Caravan Park
Finish:- Rest Area 45 mile Peg
Comment:- Went over to the restaurant for tea last night but found there was nothing on the menu I liked and it was quite expensive, so settle for a light meal in the café. Read a magazine then back to the camp kitchen to charge up all my batteries and make a cuppa before bed.
Quite a bit of drizzle overnight but my tent was dry in the morning. Up at 6 am and over to the camp kitchen for breakfast. Murray, a motorbike rider from Albany offered me some sausages, bacon and toast for breakfast. Went down very nicely. Thankyou Murray.
Back to pack up all my gear and on the road by 8 am. About 12 km out from Eucla was the state border which I crossed at 9 am. Another time adjustment and we are now on South Australian time.
Stopped at the shop in Border Village for some snacks and oranges.
Then I had another couple of stops for photo shoots. I also had my break at the last stop about 11.30 am. Back on the road for another few kms. The rain clouds have cleared away and the sun is shining. Still have my 5 - 10 kt south easterly wind to contend with.
About 50 km out I noticed someone ahead of me on the right hand side of the road and as I drew closer it was a man walking. I pulled up along side him and we introduced ourselves. He was Kevin and he was walking from one side of Australia to the other. He had nearly finished his days walk of 32 km and was going to pull into a rest area ahead. I asked him if he minded if I camped next to him. No worries. His wife Jan was following behind with a caravan as backup crew.
They were heading for the 45 k peg rest area. Found the rest area and set up our respective camps then Kevin offered me an ale. We sat around a small camp fire and chatted till tea time. I then cooked my tea and enjoyed it with them. After another couple of ales and a cup of tea it was time for bed.
Tomorrow I hope to get to the 111K Peg Rest Area, a distance of 66 km.
